[AK.IPO] Cancellation of the first 3-Länder International Political Economy conference

Dear colleagues,

We regret to have to cancel the first 3-Länder International Political 
Economy conference this year. We are very sorry to have to do this; and 
have ourselves been struggling to make this decision for a while now.

Because we had planned this conference not just as a one-time 
opportunity to present and discuss current research but also as an 
opportunity to foster closer regular interaction of IPE scholars in the 
three German speaking countries (and, of course, beyond), we very much 
wanted to hold this conference in an in-person format.  To so, we had 
(with support from Tim Büthe’s HfP/TUM Chair for International Relation) 
reserved space at the TUM Akademiezentrum Raitenhaslach, which provides 
a uniquely conducive setting for fostering in-depth intellectual 
exchange, along with nice meals, subsidized/free accommodations for 
emerging scholars, etc.

Unfortunately, notwithstanding the improving COVID-19 numbers and 
vaccinations, an in-person conference is just not yet going to be 
feasible in Raitenhaslach this summer.  So with great regret, we have 
decided to cancel this year’s conference entirely.

Recent developments and current guidance from the university make us 
very hopeful that in-person conferences will again be feasible beginning 
next year.  We shall gladly organize the (still) first 3-Länder 
International Political Economy conference in summer 2022.  In the 
meantime, please accept our apologies for any inconveniences our 
decision might bring with it.

Allow us to call your attention to the DVPW congress, which will take 
place from September 14-16.  For those of you at German universities or 
otherwise members of the DVPW, please note the new procedures, according 
to which you which you must choose sections and working groups via the 
members’ portal of the DVPW to become/remain a recognized member of a 
section or group. The IPE urges all DVPW members interested in IPE 
research to confirm or declare their membership in the section/group 
prior to the congress and then to attend the members’ meeting of the 
AK-IPÖ on the evening before the congress starts (13 Sept 2021), during 
which the Arbeitskreis Internationale Politische Ökonomie will elect a
