[AK.IPO] CfA: 2 PhD Positions 'Financial Infrastructures and Geoeconomic Security'

2 PhD Positions in the field of Security Studies and/or Social Studies of
Finance 

Both positions are part of the externally funded project "Financial
Infrastructures and Geoeconomic Security" and are limited until 31.12.2025
at the Chair of Sociology with a Focus on General Comparative Studies,
Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Cultural
Studies. The salary is in accordance with the collective labour agreement of
the State of Hessen (E 13 TV-H). 

The interdisciplinary Collaborative Research Centre/Transregio 138 "Dynamics
of Security - Forms of Securitisation from a Historical Perspective" at
Justus Liebig University Giessen and Phillips University Marburg studies the
historical development of understandings of security and their entanglement
with political processes and institutionalisation under varying historical
circumstances. The announced researcher positions are affiliated with the
Centre's sub-project C05 "Financial Infrastructures and Geoeconomic
Security" lead by Andreas Langenohl and Carola Westermeier. The sub-project
pursues different empirical perspectives. It investigates firms of the
digital economy that offer services in the field of international financial
transactions and are increasingly based in the European Union, in Russia and
in China, and entertain relationships with governments and administrations
in these areas. The project also analyses the changing role of central banks
as traditional providers of payment and transaction infrastructures, which
in their turn maintain close relationships with political and government
institutions. 

Your tasks at a glance 

. Original research within the research agenda of the sub-project C05, in
particular, investigation into forms of cooperation between political and
administrative actors and institutions on the one hand, and commercial
enterprises in the field of international transaction and payment systems on
the other hand, with a particular focus on Russia and/or China 

. Presentation of research at national and international conferences as well
as within the Centre 

. Supporting the principal investigators of the sub-project in coordinative
tasks 

. Active participation in the Centre's events and research units 

In addition to working on the project, there is the opportunity to pursue a
doctorate. 

Your qualifications and competences 

. You hold a very good or excellent Master's (or equivalent) degree in the
field of the social sciences or adjacent fields 

. Your study record demonstrates a thematic focus on the field of critical
security studies, the social study of finance, or political economy 

. Additional knowledge of the geopolitical role of Russian and/or Chinese
actors, institutions and companies in the field of international payment and
transaction systems would be beneficial
