Call for Papers ‘Financial Crises as Global Challenges. Actors,
Structures and Logics of Global Finance’
Dates: Wednesday 24th – Saturday 27th June 2015
Location: Tagungszentrum Schloss Herrenhausen in Hannover, Germany
Deadline: 15th January 2015

In scope and scale, the world financial crisis that began seven
years ago has been exceptional. It continues to exert a major impact
on the global economy. For close to 30 years now, however, financial
crises have come to be not the exception but the rule. As global
finance gains importance in a global economy, crises are occurring
more frequently. In this situation, the need to determine the causes
behind these crises and to search for appropriate solutions has
become all the more urgent. For a wide range of sciences dealing
with global finance, the latest crisis marks a turning point. It
underscores the fact that international financial challenges cannot
be tackled single-handedly or separately. Although studies exploring
the reasons behind global financial crisis are many, they tend to
stay within the bounds of their respective fields. Despite the clear
need for interdisciplinary dialogue, endeavours to cut across
disciplines and create new synergies in research are surprisingly
infrequent.

The symposium "Financial Crises as Global Challenges" aims to fill
this gap. It will tap the expertise and excellence of a wide
spectrum of academic disciplines and will provide leading scholars
of global finance and International Political Economy with an
international forum to share their latest research findings and
insights. Five conference themes will structure the common thread of
interdisciplinary scientific analysis: (a) Learning from the history
of financial crises; (b) Financial crises and nation states; (c)
Financial innovations, shadow banking, and financialization; (d)
Global and local practices in finance; and (e) Reflexivities and
rationalities of global finance. Each of these themes will be
conceptually explored in relation to actors, structures and logics
of global finance.

The event will bring together junior scholars and senior scholars
from the fields of political science, economics, sociology,
international political economy, geography, and history. There are
some places left for PhDs and Postdocs. Hence, we invite papers from
PhDs and Postdocs which address one of the five main conference
themes. In case of acceptance, accommodation and meals in the
Tagungszentrum Schloss Herrenhausen, and travel costs (up to 200
Euro) will be covered.
Proposals for contributions should include a title, a short abstract
(max. 300 words), and a brief (max. 50 word) biographical statement,
